Dhokla Recipe in English

To make Dhokla, first sift the gram flour in a vessel. Now add water little by little and make a paste of gram flour neither too thin nor too thick. Keep stirring while adding water to avoid lumps in the paste.

Now add lemon juice, salt and curd and mix well. Now keep this mixture covered for 1-2 hours, so that it swells well. Now add green chilli ginger paste to it and whisk it well again.

Now apply oil in the vessel in which you want to make Dhokla and grease it. Now add 2-3 cups of water in the cooker and keep it on high flame to heat.

Now add Eno fruit salt to this thick gram flour paste and whisk well for a minute. Now you will see that the paste has swelled.

Now without any delay, put this mixture in the oiled vessel and keep it in the cooker and close the lid, keep in mind that the whistle of the cooker should not be put.

After cooking in steam for 20-25 minutes on medium flame, open the lid when the pressure of the cooker is over. Now check by sticking a knife in the dhokla. If the knife is clean then the dhokla is cooked and if there is any wetness of paste on it, then cook it for 2-3 minutes more.

Now after the stipulated time, take out the dhokla from the cooker and leave it like this for some time. Then cut the dhokla into small pieces. Now heat oil in the tadka pan. When the oil becomes hot, add asafoetida, mustard, green chillies and curry leaves and prepare the tadka.

Add one cup of water and sugar in this tadka, boil it once and turn off the flame. Pour the prepared tadka on the dhokla and garnish it with coriander leaves and eat.
